Surrey Artisan Start Up Brand Collaborates with Global Coffee Brand

Just Because Treats is proud to announce that they have been chosen to work with global coffee giant, Lavazza, to co-develop a range of coffee-based Alfajores that will be paired with coffees at the Lavazza UK Barista Championship 2019.

The Lavazza UK Barista Championship takes place next Monday – 25 November 2019 - at the prestigious Ham Yard Hotel in Soho, part of the Firmdale Group of boutique hotels.

Working with Lavazza, Just Because Treats owner, Jen Munson-Montanez, has created two signature Alfajores, using Lavazza ¡TIERRA! Colombiapremium blend, 100% arabica roasted beans interpreting Colombian flavours, characterised by their floral aroma with citrus and honey notes.

The signature Alfajores, that will be enjoyed on the day, are the Vanilla Latte Alfajores and the Tiramisu Alfajores, along with other carefully paired flavours from the current Alfajores range. Along with these tantalising treats and hotel food, baristas and attendees will be able to match flavours to enhance the coffee experience throughout the day.

Alfajores are sandwich cookies, made from two shortbread-like cookies and filled with flavoured cremes. Alfajores have their origins in the Middle East and, when the Spanish acquired a taste for Alfajores from the Moors, they brought it with them to South America. Alfajores are now an integral part of South American cuisine.

Jen Munson-Montanezsaid, “This is such an honour – in so many ways. These Venezuelan delicacies capture the essence of my childhood, so I was thrilled when they were so well received in the UK. Just Because Treats is still just in its infancy yet we have been chosen by a global coffee brand, Lavazza, to partner with and indulge the attendees of the Lavazza UK Barista Championship in London and we really couldn’t be happier. There is much to be proud of with regards to this event but what really delights us is the fact that Alfajores will be brought to a new and well-deserved audience, demonstrating the appetite for these treats in prestige settings. We are very much looking forward to the event and wish the finalists the best of luck.”
