perlcosmetics

Since the release of Caroline Hirons’ book and the Fenty launch, the already booming skincare industry has skyrocketed. However, there is a definite lack in the market for a sustainable, natural and customisable skincare brand. Enter PERLcosmetics, a brand that has sustainability at the heart of what it does with one hero product, our customisable pearl powder clay mask with illuminating oil.

The idea of PERLcosmetics came in November 2019 after I was inspired by the popularity of Australian clay masks. However, it wasn’t until May 2020 when I lost my job during the pandemic that I decided to bring my idea into reality. I am a one-woman team doing everything myself, from creating my website through to formulating my product. I’ve loved every second of starting my business and am excited for what the future holds for PERLcosmetics!

Out of the Cube

Out of the Cube helps visual artists sell their art online and build their business. Prior to Out of the Cube's creation, Gavriella Abekassis, founder of the company, has worked in art galleries in London, Amsterdam, and Paris for five years. During this time, she realized that most artists cannot be represented by art galleries. When they are not represented, they are labelled as unsuccessful, or they don't know where to start when it comes to sales.

It is with the goal to share the knowledge of running an art business with artists that Gavriella has founded Out of the Cube.

The heart of Out of the Cube is the Artist Entrepreneur Club which gathers a community of business-minded artists. The members receive weekly trainings and articles to get their business going as well as a monthly webinar. They also have direct access to Gavriella for any questions.

OneDash

Officially launched in 2020, OneDash is a solution for monetising video-based media instantly via the use of interactive tools. Its aim is to create a more seamless shopping platform; one that shortens the consumer journey by putting the point of inspiration next to the point of transaction. This creates an environment in which customers can interact with retail outlets in real time, enhancing engagement and boosting brand loyalty.

The OneDash platform gives users the ability to upload video, edit their content directly, add sound, integrate social media publishing, and add buttons or overlay for direct to product purchasing. Users can then track impressions and gain insights through real-time analytical features.

OneDash was ranked in the top five at Google’s ICCV 2019 Deepfashion2 Challenge for Artificial Intelligence in 2019, and has offices in the UK, Singapore, and Dubai.

Tumbao

Tumbao is young start-up, tackling big questions facing the fashion industry, such as sustainability and supply-chain issues.

Its founders – students at IE University in Spain - Nicholas Saye, Federica Caso, Ecab Amor and María José Heshiki de las Casas - have created an entirely biodegradable product line of wallets and purses out of an innovative new alternative for leather - the skin of the Mexican nopal cactus, also known as prickly pear.

Until now, sustainable or slow fashion have been a luxury that only few can afford, and contrary to popular belief, most vegan leather products contain harmful chemicals such as polyurethane and PVC plastics. Tumbao seeks to change this, by offering an entirely natural alternative at an affordable price.

Sustainability and circularity are key to Tumbao’s business model. Each Tumbao wallet purchased contributes towards cactus biodiversity in Mexico, making Tumbao not only carbon neutral but carbon negative. What’s more, their supply chain is small and local, based in Guadalajara, Mexico, and they work with a small family owned business.

ThirdShift

ThirdShift is disrupting how families work and stay connected so that every person has the freedom to find their purpose. Our goal is to create a more equal world – starting with the 2 hours more unpaid work that women do every day. ThirdShift’s technology helps busy parents to find a better balance by managing unpaid work at a household level, going beyond productivity to help improve relationships, and prioritise wellbeing. We make the invisible work visible – addressing the gender data gap, and helping shift the inequalities in housework and mental load that still exist at work and home.

ThirdShift originated from Catherine’s experience of trying to build gender balanced teams in tech businesses and struggling to find female talent. Despite trying proven steps to attract female candidates, they still couldn’t get to 50%. At the same time, she saw her friends with successful careers struggling to continue to do what they wanted professionally after having children. It was clear there was a deeper problem – and it started at home.
