Amazon set to hire 1500 people at new Essex warehouse in 2017

Amazon has announced that it will create 1500 new jobs at a Tilbury warehouse in 2017. The ecommerce giant describes the new warehouse as a fulfilment centre which will be used to stock tens of thousands of items which will be available for purchase on Amazon’s website.

The company announced that it will begin recruitment as early as this summer for a range of roles including operations managers, engineers, HR, IT and order processors.

Amazon’s VP of UK operations said in a statement that, "we are excited to announce that we will be opening our 13th fulfilment centre in the UK in Tilbury in spring 2017 to enable us to continue to expand our product selection, support more third party sellers including small businesses with our fulfilment expertise and meet growing customer demand in the UK,".

Amazon also said that they would be using robots in order to increase delivery speeds.

In addition to the new Tilbury fulfilment warehouse, Amazon will open two new fulfilment centres in Manchester and Coalville, Leicestershire this autumn. The company states that by the end of the year, it expects that its UK workforce will total some 15,500 people.

According to industry experts Amazon is on course to become the world’s first trillion dollar company and it is certainly encouraging to see that as the company continues to expand, its desire to support small businesses also continues.
