Young Foodies launches a new food delivery service for startups and SMEs
The Mighty Small online store was created to give challenger brands the opportunity to capitalise on the rapid increase in online sales, providing them with a hassle-free route to e-commerce
Online store is unique to independent food and drink products, and includes home delivery
Offers brands favourable collaborative and supportive commercial and operational terms
Brands and wholesalers are encouraged to sign up to be considered for the site launch
Young Foodies has launched a new online supermarket with community at its core, dedicated to small independent brands. The site allows challenger brands who don’t have an existing e-commerce operation or who want to create new channels to unlock new opportunities online and access new consumers.
The DTC e-commerce platform, Mighty Small, will help startups and SMEs rejuvenate sales, boost cashflow and grow categories.
The aim of Mighty Small is to actively educate and engage consumers in wider and more exciting product choices, innovative flavours and ingredient authenticity available to them online. The service offers safe, contactless delivery anywhere in the UK, with their pick of hundreds of sweet treats, drinks, sauces, trusty cupboard essentials and more. No virtual queues, no endless searches for delivery slots, and no more of the same old ‘autopilot’ items in the shopping basket.
Mighty Small encourages shoppers to support local producers and give a much needed boost to independent businesses. They are the same businesses who have been driving food and drink innovation and contributing significant (59%) FMCG market growth.
Mighty Small was created within days to meet fast-changing SME needs
Despite the taxing impact of COVID-19, 47% of small businesses see a significant opportunity in pivoting to online to boost sales. Recognising that individually many startups are limited to technological, logistical and manpower capabilities, Young Foodies built an entirely new online retail business within days, offering brands favourable commercial and operational terms. These include quick payment terms, cost-effective storage options with full control over stock volumes, no product pitching or expensive marketing plans, no onboarding delays, and no minimum sale quantities.
Harnessing the power of community for collective gain
Marketing of the website will be largely community-driven and referral-led using an affiliates scheme, including a donation to the Food Cycle charity for every basket purchased. As a community, brands are encouraged to leverage their collective millions of social media followers to promote the online proposition, with a friends and family discount and an affiliates programme.
Having built the platform, Young Foodies will manage supply and facilitate all operations on brands’ behalf, from centralising shipping costs, simplifying fulfilment, and managing multiple supply chains. All picking, packing and delivery will be handled and paid for by Young Foodies.
Launch partners Volcano Coffee Works and Crosta & Mollica were among the first to sign up to Mighty Small, and each have expressed optimism and excitement on the opportunity for both their own businesses and the industry as a whole.
SMEs are encouraged to sign up straight away
Young Foodies encourages all food and beverage SME’s to reach out whether they are members of its Community or not. The more products listed on the website the more attractive the proposition to shoppers and the stronger the combined referral to benefit everyone.
Theadora Alexander, co-founder of Young Foodies, comments: “Mighty Small is not just an online supermarket, it’s the result of SMEs coming together to buy into an exciting new concept for the benefit of all. Few businesses are as agile and open to change as challengers and Young Foodies is incredibly proud to make this happen. It forms part of our wider #MakeaDifference campaign to support independent brands throughout the Coronavirus crisis.”
Craig Slatter, Business Development Manager of Italian food brand Crosta & Mollica, says: “Mighty Small solves one of our biggest challenges which is to make our products more easily accessible online and to get stock directly to consumers who love us.”
