Launch of Common Cause Awards 2015

Launch of Common Cause Awards 2015

Launching today, a leading London-based enterprise charity is promoting the achievements of a group of micro-entrepreneurs who have come from disadvantaged backgrounds and moved themselves out of poverty.

Common Cause is a UK-based charity that connects people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are building their own livelihoods with the funding, advice and equipment they need.

To celebrate a tremendous achievement, Common Cause has overlooked the usual black-tie awards dinner and has instead dedicated the entire month of October to run a targeted crowdfunding campaign to promote and raise awareness of their micro-entrepreneurs.

Aroon Dougan, Chief Executive of Common Cause, says:

“The Micro-Enterprise Awards are about celebrating the achievements of our beneficiaries who have overcome disadvantage to set up their own businesses and gain financial independence for themselves and their families.
— Aroon Dougan

To support this incredible cause you will be able to 'vote with your wallets’ and pledge as little as £1 towards each of the micro-enterprises, which in turn will help them to raise the necessary funds to start their businesses.

These are the four categories with one being focussed on per week:

  • Biggest Impact
  • One to Watch
  • Women's Champion
  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year

A judging panel made up of enterprise leaders will decide the overall winners in the run-up to Global Entrepreneur Week in mid-November.

The Chief Executive of Common Cause, Aroon Dougan, says:

“It is crucial that in trying to find the next Google or Twitter near silicon roundabout we don’t forget the little guys who are contributing just as much towards UK growth.

“We’re immensely proud of what they’ve already achieved - whether it is the Co-Pop about to open their shop in Pop Brixton or one of the many individuals who have faced such hardship throughout their lives.”
— Aroon Dougan

Common Cause aims to continue supporting micro-entrepreneurs and you can give your support by providing an entrepreneur with financial support towards their startup. You will not only be giving your vote for the business you want to support, you will also be giving someone the chance to win an award on the 10th of November 2015.

Head on over to Common Cause here to find out more and cast your vote!
