Lumai appoints former Arm product leader as Head of Product to help bring the fastest AI processor to market

Lumai, the UK company developing the fastest and most energy efficient AI processor, using 3D optical computing for a quicker, smarter and more sustainable world, today announced its appointment of product management leader, Phillip Burr, to bring Lumai’s game-changing AI technology to market across all regions.

Phil has over 30 years of experience in global product management, go-to-market and leadership roles within leading semiconductor and technology companies, and a proven track record of building and scaling products and services that drive business growth and deliver impact. He joins Lumai to drive product and go-to-market strategy and to develop and support the company’s commercial opportunities.

Phil’s previous experience includes roles as Senior Director at Arm, the global processor design company, and Product Marketing Director at electronic design automation innovator, Mentor Graphics (now part of Siemens). Most recently, Phil held a Product Management leadership role at indie Semiconductor, the US-headquartered fabless semiconductor company.

Phil will join Lumai’s leadership team and help to drive the company’s mission of empowering cloud computing providers and enterprises unlock the next generation of AI with fully optical computing that can compute at faster speeds and at greater scales than ever before. With AI innovation driving computing demand at a phenomenal pace – but electronics hitting their physical limits – Lumai is developing 3D optics that can perform computations 1000x faster than traditional electronics, while consuming only 1/100th of the energy.

Tim Weil, CEO at Lumai, commented: “Phil brings valuable global product leadership experience to the Lumai team and will be central in supporting our mission to unlock the power of artificial intelligence with the fastest AI processing. This announcement comes alongside the news of our recognition from Intel Ignite and shortlisting in PwC & HSBC’s UK Tech Awards. It’s an exciting time for the Lumai team.”

Phillip Burr added: “Lumai’s work in utilising the capabilities of optical computing technology to create the highest-performance, lowest-power AI processing is truly game-changing.  I look forward to working with the team to help bring this disruptive, first of its kind technology to market and to support cloud computing providers and enterprises in realising the vast potential of AI in the most sustainable way.”
