In a very short space of time Made for Drink’s impact on the UK snacking scene has been nothing short of miraculous. Today phrases like ‘Beer Munch’ are commonplace and yet if you wind back on a few years it was Berkshire’s award-winning Made for Drink who first nurtured the ‘big idea’ to create snacks that paired perfectly with one’s favourite alcoholic tipples; be that Gallic inspired Duck Fritons and IPA, Chorizo Thins mingling effortlessly with a velvety smooth Rjoca or Mangalitza salami chips showing ice cold pilsner in the best possible light.
The underlying idea however was far bigger than pairing snacks with ‘kindred spirit’ drinks or even rediscovering gourmet snacking skills (old-school cooking methods, ingredients and culinary practices) of times gone by.
This was an idea built around bringing people together through good food and drink, reclaiming the local pub, the unrivalled warmth of community and creating a happy, sharing space where friends popped their phones into their pockets and talked face to face.
In a rapidly evolving UK bar scene it seemed wrong that punters had access to craft spirits, micro-brewery ales and clean-deck mixers whilst having to settle for drab, spud-centric snacks.
